BBSA Willoughby Memorial Race with Hot Buttered Rum

The Broad Bay Sailing Association (BBSA) has the right idea when it comes to regattas, if you ask us! Temps were only starting to turn south on Saturday, November 7, when 18 boats headed out to the race course for the fall tradition: the 16th annual Willoughby Memorial and Hot Buttered Rum Race.

The pursuit-style start happened in almost no wind, but that was definitely the calm before the storm. Racers saw 20 knots sustained, with gusts between 30 and 35 knots. "And then, somebody turned a fire hose on us," said Guy Sorensen, skipper of Blue Ghost and one of the regatta's organizers. "We saw an inch and a half of rain during a 4.5-nautical mile race."

Congrats to all who took part, and thank you to David Baxter Photography for the amazing photographs!
