Southern Maryland Sailing Association Opening Day

SMSA Opening Day Ceremony

On a beautiful sunny morning in early April, the Southern Maryland Sailing Association (SMSA) formally opened the 2017 sailing season at their waterside clubhouse in Solomons. April 8, 90 members gathered to celebrate the launch of their 46th year with Mimosas and Bloody Marys, brunch, and the traditional flag raising ceremony. After brief remarks, including a recitation of the letter to local sailors that led to SMSA’s founding in 1972, charter member Shawn Stanley fired the cannon and Commodore Jim Keen proclaimed, “Let the season begin!”
