Magnus Olsson, 1949-2013

The sailing community has been hit hard this month. First, Don Backe, a backbone of the Annapolis sailing scene. And now Magnus Olsson, a figurehead in offshore sailing since 1985.

Olsson first came on the international scene when he raced with Simon LeBon (yes, that Simon LeBon) onboard Drum for a Whitbread race. He went on to compete in the Whitbread/Volvo Ocean Race a total of six times, winning in 1998 with EF Language.

Honestly, we're not ready to write another obituary around here, but we wanted to share this amazing video of Mangus put out by the VOR. It's clear that Mangus loved his job - that smile was infectious - and the sport is lucky to have had him.
