Stingray Harbour YC in Ship Shape for the Season

Stingray Harbour Yacht Club (SHYC) members have hosted  two events to kick off 2013 sailing season. On February 22-24 we hearty sailors set forth by car on our Land Cruise to Baltimore Inner Harbor.

We had a guided tour of USS Constellation as well as admission to other ships and the Lighthouse as well as many other famous places of interest.  We sampled local eateries and meandered the many walking areas along the harbor.  We had a group dinner on our last evening in Baltimore with much laughter and recounting of our fun excursions.  We ate, drank and were very merry as we toured this great city.

On March 27-28, we held our Opening Day weekend that included our traditional ‘burning of the socks’ to celebrate a new season, boat inspections provided by the Coast Guard to be sure we were ship-shape for the sailing season, blessing of the fleet by local clergy, an open-house at our lighthouse with food and drink, as well as a pig roast dinner for the marina members.  On Sunday, we set sail on our annual ‘shakedown cruise’ to test our vessels’ sea worthiness .  Fortunately, all members returned safely to their slips by day’s end prepared to launch our summer sailing season.
