Racing Roundup, July 13

Holy cannoli what a weekend!

First up, the EYC Race to Solomons kicked itself off Friday night, when almost 60 boats chased a sinking sun from Annapolis down the Bay. You either had good wind or you did not, end of story. Here are the first place finishers in each class; full results are here.

Cruising Class: Julep, Mark Burrows
J/105: Singularity, Stan Shortz
J/30: Rag Doll, Rob Lundahl

Down even further South, the Southern Chesapeake Leukemia Regatta drew in 50 boats in eight classes to race over two days. The lack of wind limited the first day to one race for most, but Sunday was much improved, and the majority of the fleet got in four races total.

PHRF C: Roundabout, Alan Bomar
PHRF NS: Juggernaut, Mike Dale

It's been a busy summer for the crew onboard Shinnecock, Jim Praley's J/120. After taking second place in A2N, Praley and his crew returned to Annapolis for just a few weeks before heading back to New England to compete in the Marblehead to Halifax Race. Based on their combined performance in both races, they were awarded the Chelsea Clock Mariner Trophy for PHRF Racing Overall. Nanuq (Sabre 426, Glenn Doncaster, Fishing Bay YC), Chaotic Flux (J/120, James Chen, Herrington Harbor SA), Razors Edge (Sabre 362, Frank Kendall, Pentagon Sailing Association), and Stormy Weather (Swann 44, Mike Maholchic, Eastport YC) also sailed both races. Full results are here.
