SpinSheet Century Club Fall Leaderboard 2019

Who’s Hit 100 Days on the Water … and Who’s Close?

It’s that time again, for the imperfect science of posting a seasonal leaderboard for the SpinSheet Century Club in which we challenge our readers to log 100 on-water days within the calendar year. Those of us who aren't even close (this editor included) still enjoy following the progress of those sailors who are working toward their goals and really living the life this season.

Why is our leaderboard system imperfect? Oh, let us count the ways. First of all, hardcore Centurions, we’ve come to find out, are generally not great emailers or social media posters—in fact last year’s top scoring Century Club member only sends us an email at the end of the year with his final numbers. We’re fairly confident he’s well past 100, but we don’t know for sure. This is more a leaderboard of those who’ve read their emails in the past day.

Jack Moore's 1959 O'Day Daysailer has been enjoyed by four generations of his family... she's been well sailed this season.

Another imperfection in our system is that by the time you read this post, the numbers will have changed. As soon as we post this, we’ll get 10 emails from people who should be on the leaderboard but aren’t (because of that email thing). And although we’d like to have a team of people updating our Century Club leaderboard in real time, well, hahah… haa. …ha. We don’t.

Here's Rob Marino and his daughter Aubrey on their sailboat Aah, Breeze.( get it? Aubrey’s)

So with that advanced apology to those who missed yesterday’s email call for on-water numbers, here’s what we know at this very moment. We have 17 (or more) official 2019 Century Club members—these are the ones who have left the dock at least 100 times within the calendar year and sent us their logs: David Andril, Kristin Berry, Russ Borman, Joe Cummings, Bob Gallagher (six-time Centurion!), Bill Gordon, Mark Hergan, Cailin Hohman, Michael Jewell (six-time Centurion!), Ashley Love, Sean McCarthy, Dave Nestel (six-time Centurion and two-time Erewhon Award winner), Carter O’Neill, Anna Patterson, John Schafer, Daniel Unangst, Ken Vinson, and Greg Whelker.

Rob Shepherd writes "Here is a picture of my lovely bride during on of our Bay sails."

Here’s the leaderboard of folks who are almost there!

  1. Tim Etherington          98 days on the water in 2019
  2. Rob Shepherd            97
  3. Jeffrey Moore             96
  4. Dave Stalfort              91
  5. Ken Vinson                 90
  6. Dorian Haldeman        89
  7. Steve Birchfield          89
  8. Rob Marino                 84
  9. Julianne DeGraw Fettus         83
  10. Bob Leichtman           82

We will update out website with some feedback from the Century Club as they send in photos and tell us more about their seasons. We still have a lot of great sailing ahead of us this fall… get out there and enjoy it! Sail on, SpinSheet friends!

Lorie Stout, who is in #11 by the way, sent us this cool shot of "cloud boarding." Good luck hitting 100, Lorie!
