Gerhard Straub, 100 Days on the Water

Gerhard Straub is a volunteer at the Reedville Fisherman's Museum and is the current captain of the Claud W. Somers, a skipjack built in 1911 in Clam, VA. She is one of the remaining skipjacks on the Chesapeake, and worked the Bay until 1983. Straub heads a committee that is in charge of the vessel, and works on fund raising for repairs and necessary upgrades.

When he's not on the Claud W. Somers, Straub has a RIB, a 14-foot wooden crabbing skiff, and Kijit, a Wauquiez Centurion 41 sailboat. He also spent time working on the Chesapeake Bay Trash Trawl.

Congratulations, Gerhard, and welcome to the Club!
