Strangers in the Night Quiz

The Annapolis Sail and Power Squadron (ASPS) celebrated their 75th anniversary at the Annual United States Power Squadrons District 5 Spring Conference in Ocean City, March 31 - April 3. Fifteen ASPS members attended this enjoyable weekend of fellowship and education with like-minded boaters from across the eastern seaboard.

Friday night they hosted a hospitality suite for all attendees to commemorate the 75th anniversary with cake and champaign. Chairwoman Denise Lindenhall coordinated a delightful evening starting with an educational ice-breaker called “Strangers in the Night, Boats You Might See on the Chesapeake." Seven hats, with colored pom-poms to represent different light arrays that boats should display at night, were arranged on a table.

Carol Tulip, past ASPS Commander, made sure that everyone entering the hospitality suite got a warm welcome and thoroughly quizzed on some common, and not so common vessel night light arrays. It was surprising how many experienced boaters got the different light scenarios confused. If you would like to polish your boating knowledge, ASPS offers many educational classes and workshops; for more information go to: aspsmd.org/education.htm
