Good Sailing, Good Fellowship, and Good Eating

Back Creek YC's summer events reflect good sailing, good fellowship, and good eating.

Over eight days, the Club’s Annual Spring Cruise involving over a dozen boats journeyed to Lankford Creek Marina on the Chester River, Fairlee Creek, Great Oak Landing, in Chestertown, Tidewater Marina in Harve de Grace, Georgetown Yacht Basin in Georgetown, and finishing at Worton Creek Marina in Chestertown.

The Club’s Annual Lobster Fest starring 2 lb lobsters (or Roast Beef) was held June 18 followed by Sunday breakfast the next morning, starring Flip, Flop and Drop providing Customized Omelets, Mimosas, Orange Juice, Mixed Fresh Fruit, Coffee Cake, Bagels & Cream Cheese, Muffins, reg and decaf coffee, tea and hot water. As usual, the Fest was held at the home of Wally and Molly Stone on Crab Creek off the South River.

On June 22, members attended the Art of Trumpy Yacht Wooden Boat Building Exhibit followed by a Happy Hour hosted by Molly and Wally Stone at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Chaney and Martino Galleries, 801 Chase Street Annapolis. The exhibit will trace the design and construction of these distinctive wooden yachts from 1909 through 1973, when the Trumpy Yacht Yard in Annapolis, MD (Eastport) produced its last boat. The models, paintings, historic photographs, artifacts, vintage signage and original drawings by naval architect and yacht designer John Trumpy, Sr., will bring the boat-building process to life.

On July 4 weekend, the Club enjoyed fireworks at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore; the best and brightest fireworks we've have seen in some time! The weekend started on Saturday by Gibson Island in Sillery Bay where the club anchored and rafted up. On Sunday, the fleet moved to Anchorage Marina and walked over to Amiccis in Little Italy for dinner. On Monday, Ben and Candy Wilson hosted a BBQ for the fleet on the dock by the swimming pool before the fireworks. Afterwards, there was Kick-dancing on the dock.
