...but the race isn't over yet!
George David's Rambler killed the Newport Bermuda record in 2012 with a time of 39 hours and 39 minutes, and unfortunately there's no record breaking happening in 2014. Shockwave finished with a corrected time of four fays, four hours, six minutes and 48 seconds.
Shockwave received line honors, while Hap Fauth's Bella Mente was right behind in second. Caol Ila Ra, Alex Schaerer's mini maxi, finished third. Doing exceptionally well is the TP 52 Constellation, skippered by Joshua Forgacs, who is only 90 nautical miles from the finish and averaging eight knots."
"The big difference between the faster, leading boats and those further back is the Gulf Stream," writes Talbot Wilson in his race report. "Carina and Christopher Dragon, two of the leading boats on corrected time, are nearby and in the axis of the Gulf Stream which is flowing west to east. The current may actually be making wind for them, giving them additional apparent wind to sail with.
