78 degrees, 5 - 7 mph winds, not a cloud in the sky.  Perfect day for a sail out to the Potomac.

  • Sailing around Placid Bay

Winter was back for a few days hence I hadn’t had a chance to sail since last week and was chomping at the bit to go out.  My weather app and the Argo app both predicted winds around 6 mph.  Guess what?  They were wrong!  Try winds in the 10-15 mph range.  My sail to Placid Bay was fine but once I rounded the bend it became a bit challenging.  I had the good sense to take the sails down and motor home without incident.

The wind was a bit unpredicable which made Karen a bit uncomfortbalbe so a relatively short, (1 hour), sail on Mattox Creek.

Left around 10:30 AM for a nice Sunday morning sail to Church Point.  It started to get a bit gusty and I had the common sense to get back home before my it got too challenging.

  • Hoisting the sail for the first time in 526 days. Picture curtesy of my wonderful wife Karen.
  • Just a perfect February day for sailing. No sure why I can't get the pictures to be horizontal.

It’s been 526 days since I last sailed and today was the perfect day to go out on Mattox Creek.  58 degrees, light wind, blue skies.   It is also the first time that I’ve ever sailed in a winter month.  I stayed out for about 3 hours.  Nothing left to do today but smile, smile, smile.

  • The Tohatsu started up after about 10 pulls. Not bad for sitting 17 months.
  • Motoring to day marker 17.

Haven't sailed Bente since September of 2021 as we were having out house renovated which took well over a year and not the 6 months, we were told it would take.  Cleaned her up on Friday and got the motor started today after about 10 pulls.  Not bad for having it sit for 17 months.  Just motored to day marker 7 and back.  Chomping at the bit to go sailing.  Hopefully later this week.

  • Paddling to the sunken sailboat.
  • The sunken sailboat of Mattox Creek.

With the temperatures in the high 70's maybe even hitting 80 it was perfect day to do some kayacking on Mattox Creek with Karen.  Destination, the sunken sailboat.  We deliberately went out at low tide to hopefully see more of the boat.  Though the water was a little clearer than in the summer we still weren't able to see much.  So sad that this boat was proboably someones pride and joy back in the day and now it's just a hazard.
