On a breezy, 80-degree day, I celebrated my 101st day on the water and my 68th birthday! It was indeed a day that was made for our boat. It’s what we call, “a Cape Dory Day! It will go down as one of my top-ten sailing days of all time. The winds were 15, gusting 20, before lying down later in the afternoon I was maintaining speeds of 6 and 7+ knots. It was perfect! The new sail from Rolly Tasker is great, and the boat is faster because of it. Sailing single-handed, I sailed up the Patuxent River, under the bridge, past Point Patience and up to Sotterly before making the turn. It was a day when I just wanted to keep going and going. I made the turn, and came back down the river without needing to tack until I came into Back Creek and dropping the sails. The log read 18 miles for the day, over the 4 hours that I was out. This was a great one!
