In spite of the heat, my students came out and we managed to rig, demonstrate a reefed main, duck back into the shade for a break and do knots and the theory on heave-to's, and then braved the sun to set off and get more tiller practice in. We got in two heave-to's, got out of irons, discussed how useful backed jibs can be, and did a couple of up wind docks and a downwind.
Insane heat. Felt like 110 but was probably only 99 or 100. Very low wind, 2-6 W 3hrs
Pretty sure one of my students was on the verge of severe heat exhaustion shortly after leaving the dock though. Luckily I had an emergency Gatorade in my bag, but I don't think that was enough. Should have insisted he get something from Royal farms. Really felt worried the way he was sweating and out of it. I had them come in a little early and by then it was slightly cooler and the sun was lower as well.
