Sailing plans are written in the sand at low tide... This week was the perfect opportunity to start adapting myself to those wise words. This was supposed to be our big vacation of the year. The kids spend the week at sailing camp at HHS while the family stays on the boat for the week. Colin and I were supposed to be taking the boat out sailing while the kids were in camp during the day and then we would spend our evenings on the beach and poolside. Mother nature had other plans and finally unleashed all the wind and rain that she had been saving up for weeks prior. It was hard not to be disappointed and mourn the vacation I had been dreaming about for months. But not only did we spend quality time with new friends whose kiddos were also doing the camp, in the end the kids had a great time. This was a great test of whether our family was ready for boat ownership as we spent days stuck in the cabin of a 33 footer, often without propane, at the end of the T-head on A dock where we just rolled constantly and water slapped the hull all night long. Despite all of this, our 5-year-old only cried when we explained to her on Friday that we had to return the boat and wouldn't be able to stay again tonight. Can't ask for much more than that.
