Wanted to loan my longshaft 6hp to a club member who needs it to deliver his new boat up the bay from St Mikes. Trouble was: doing it from a dinghy is downright dangerous. Then I remembered...duh...the club has a very stable skiff with a 40hp outboard. Heck that oughta do it.
After a somewhat clumsy learning curve with the outboard controls, I was able to pluck the engine (weighs about 70 pounds I think*) off RAINBOW's transom and safely deliver the O/B to the dock.
Right tool - right job.
* a faithful reader has mentioned the listed dry weight is 61 pounds. I will add another pound for grease and fluids so let's call it 62. Nothing for an NFL inside linebacker...a lot for a skinny old geezer.
