Took Huzzah out all day for some excellent higher wind sailing. The spinnaker somehow got put away in such an incredibly twisted mess we had to drop it and deal with it back at the dock. I have never seen one that tightly twisted up with the sock lines wrapped and tied around it inside many many rotations, it looked like a messed up code zero furl or something. Crazy.
We did practice with the furling reefing and kept excellent speed. (9+ kts furled past the 3rd dot on both sails!) Jib shape looks better to me partially furled as well. Need to think about that.
Gorgeous weather, wind from the SW started in the mid teens but built to 20 later in the day. We ended up just tacking around and enjoying the day. Had some rigging/logisitcal discussion and oriented a couple new folks to the boat.
Also encountered what happens when we don't carefully manage the main sheet on both sides. Ran out of line on one side while the jib was on the other winch. Luckily it wasn't a big deal and we learned about keeping a close eye on that. It was easy to run back through once we furled the sail though.
conditions were clear 70s-80, wind was 14-20SW, 3-5ft waves pretty close together. ≈8-9 hrs (super fun, pretty ideal practice conditions if we had the spinnaker sorted out better. Making a plan for better hoists/douses now.)
