  • Arrived at St George marina
  • You've got to try the ferry, it's a great way to see the island -- and it really moves!
  • Leaving "the cut" from the St George lagoon
  • No wind on the 25th, just glassy water as far as the eye can see
  • The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel entrance
  • Finally home to Herrington

After Rebekah completed the Annapolis to Bermuda Ocean Race, I flew down to meet her on the island, where we stayed aboard Huzzah for some R&R, and to sort out a couple little mechanical issues before returning to home in HH.  Got to do some "tourist stuff" but mostly just took it easy.

We departed for the return trip on Monday the 22nd, with 4 of us on a 2-hour solo watch rotation.  Initial conditions were great, but after the first 24h or so the seas rose to 8-10ft with a short period that left the whole crew queasy.  I was glad to have my scopolamine patch applied well in advance -- I managed to hang on with only an unpleasant feeling and poor appetite, can't imagine how bad it would have been unmedicated!  The rest of the trip was largely uneventful, with good wind and moderate seas dying down to near-zero as we crossed the Gulf Stream.  (A flat ocean as far as the eye can see in all directions is quite a sight to behold!)

We entered the Chesapeake on the 26th, and finally reached HH on the morning of the 27th; pretty good time considering a couple of days with little to no wind.  I was glad we managed to dodge any serious squalls, and the watch schedule let me get enough sleep to stay functional.  I'm not sure I would have handled the crossing as well under race conditions, but I do feel proud about what I was able to accomplish.
