Cruising to the Many Offerings of the Chesapeake Bay

Baseball, Sail250, crabs, and more cruising adventures.

It’s been busy this summer at Selby Bay Yacht Club.

We had two wonderful club cruises in June, both to Baltimore. June 12-14 was our "Baltimore Orioles Weekend." Who wouldn’t like a great baseball game bookended by boating?

Club members witnessed the Blue Angels flying over a tall-masted sailing vessel in Baltimore during the Sail250 events.

June 26-28, we celebrated at Baltimore’s Fleet Week and 250th birthday of the USA. We had a record-breaking turnout for this cruise with 16 boats participating. Kudos go to fleet captain social chair Gina Knudson for hosting the fabulous Friday docktails and for organizing this event. Both Saturday and Sunday the cloud ceiling was low; however, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, British Royal Air Force Red Arrows, and the French Air and Space Force revised their programs and did not disappoint! When the planes weren’t flying, there was an international tall ship flotilla to explore and too many other fun activities to mention.

Enjoying crabs and camaraderie.

We kicked off August with a crab feast, and participation was so great that we had to change our original pool-side location to what will now be known as “crab hollow,” a quiet grassy spot tucked between our clubhouse and pool. A special shoutout goes to the Crab Galley, Bowie location, for the fantastic Maryland crabs and great service. Kudos again to Gina for another homerun event and to everyone who brought the great sides and cookies.
