Maryland Governor Wes Moore Proclaims June Adaptive Boating Month
Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB) announces that Maryland Governor Wes Moore has issued a proclamation declaring June as Adaptive Boating Month. The proclamation was presented to CRAB Chairman Will Crump and Vice Chair Beth Rossman by MD Department of Disabilities Secretary Carol Beatty; MD Dept of Aging Secretary Carmel Roques; and MD Veterans Affairs Acting Secretary Ross Cohen at the Annapolis Adaptive Boating Center on June 9.
Originally declared by Governor Larry Hogan in 2018, Adaptive Boating Month highlights and encourages opportunities for individuals with disabilities to experience the freedom, joy, and beauty of the Chesapeake Bay.
The Cabinet Secretaries were provided with a briefing on CRAB’s history, mission, programs and the Adaptive Boating Center, as well as a tour of the marina and demonstration of how the boats are boarded by guests. The response from the Secretaries was exceptional, and they all planned to spread the word about CRAB to their staff and regional directors; in their department newsletters that go out to tens of thousands of Maryland residents; and incorporate a CRAB link into their website’s quality of life services.
The proclamation recognized CRAB’s commitment to service, stating in part, “Thousands of [CRAB] guests and their families experience the healing effect and joy of boating on the Chesapeake Bay thanks to the dedicated volunteer skippers, crew, and support staff who generously donated over 5000 hours of their time and service in 2024...”
