We’ve written about sailing Valentines before, as most sailors know others who have met and fallen in love through a shared love of the water and boats. What’s funny about this for sailors in particular is how many things supposedly can wreck a relationship, especially docking!
One happy sailing couple, who are still newlyweds, Jayne Durden and Mark Burrows from Herrington Harbour Sailing Association, told us:
“We are great at docking. Jayne drives. Mark handles lines, fenders, and sometimes handles crowd control. We stay pretty calm because we are confident in each other's abilities.”
Jayne and Mark, we bow to you for having figured that out!
Have you ever heard headsets called “marriage savers?” Capt. Cheryl Duvall and her hubby Dudley embrace the usages of such tools to keep the peace and cruise more effectively, as described in her recent headset article. By the way, rumor has it that these two met at the Downtown Sailing Center!
If you are part of a couple who met through boating or boat shows, send a note to [email protected] and tell us how you met and what kind of boating you do together now. The best story will earn the couple two free tickets to the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show! If you don’t win the contest, you’re still eligible for 50% off tickets!
