The Back Creek YC Memorial Weekend Cruise was on May 25-27 at the Maryland Yacht Club on Rock Creek off the Patapsco River where, following a picnic dinner, appropriate recognition of the Veterans contribution to our national security was appropriately recognized.

Our Annual week-long Cruise started June 8 with a raft up at Lovely Cove on the Chester River, supervised by Ben Wilson, Raft Captain.  He experimented with a Linear Raft, with half the boats on an upwind raft, with every other boat anchored and tied together, and the other half on a downwind raft, about 30 feet between each raft with the rafts also connected stern to stern.  Crossing between rafts was by dinghies.  A conch horn blowing contest was held at sunset and a deli dinner was delivered to each boat.

The second night was orchestrated by Karen Kranzer who assigned ingredients to all to bring the food items to her boat which she then combined for an incredible repast, smoked salmon spread and Texas caviar, Maryland Crab Soup, jerked chicken salad with avocado halves, and Japanese coleslaw.  Next was a 23 mile trip back up the Chester to Haven Harbor Marina on Swan Creek in Rock Hall.  Arriving before the stormy weather of that afternoon, members enjoyed delicious dinners each of the two nights there, catered by Lemon Leaf Café from nearby Chestertown.  An Owner’s Burgee design session was held Tuesday, providing exemplars for later construction for the 15 boats participating.

After traversing the somewhat silted Kent Narrows, the fleet rafted on Granary Creek off the Wye East River, near the Conference Center and Pavilion at the DNR Park, the next two nights; the Club was able to use the Pavilion the second night for a grilled steak dinner and a Turkey Shoot, sponsored by Commodore John Loving.  The Club boats then went to the Miles River Yacht Club for the concluding two nights of the Cruise, visiting St. Michaels and the Maritime Museum during the days, with a traditional barbeque on Friday and a Cruise Banquet featuring veal marsala Saturday at the Yacht Club’s dining room.

More fun events are scheduled starting July 4th weekend with a trip to Langford Bay Marina off the Chester River on the 5th and 6th.  Later in July, we will have another water rendezvous and August 3rd our Annual Lobster Fest and morning after breakfast with Flip, Flop, and Drop will be held on Crab Creek off the South River.

The Club’s new member drive goes through July , so join us for fun times and great sailing with a virtual club, for both sail and motor boats (we are looking for any boaters who enjoy cruising, and having fun with wonderful people who love being on the water.  For details on joining us, click here.
