The Labor Day Weekend provided beautiful weather, including good winds, to enjoy a long weekend of boating and comradery with great people.  Over 60 Back Creek YC members and guests sailed to the Miles River YC at St. Michaels August 31  for KANSAS BBQ ribs, pulled pork, baked beans, and fruit salad, followed by a sharing of over 20 poetry readings that reflected the diverse interests of our members. Terry Bidnick, who moderated the readings, provided a complete recitation of Edgar Allan Poe’s many-versed “The Raven” from memory as a stellar conclusion to the evening.

Most spent Sunday visiting St. Michaels and the Maritime Museum, returning for succulent, fat, Old Bay Steamed Crabs from Chesapeake Landing.  Westbrook Murphy consumed the most crabs given the high mound of crab debris he left.

September 18was a mid-week lunch on the hook at Galesville, adjourning to watch the Wednesday night races start, followed by dinner at Pirates Cove.

On the 21, Bill and Karen Kranzer hosted “Octoberfest on Weems Creek,” at the Pavillion by the Severn providing appetizers, bratwurst, potato salad, cole slaw, and German butter kuchen.

After the boat shows, we hold our last on-the-water event October 19-20 at Bob and Gail Higginbotham’s house and docks on Minnow Creek, with Western BBQ, music, and square dancing.  November 3 is our Annual Meeting at the Fleet Reserve Club to elect new officers, review our fun over the year, and plan new events for 2014.  Join us for events; get details at http://www.backcreekyc.org
