Fall Cruising: Solomons, Norfolk, and Cambridge

Following a Laid Back Weekend at Lankford Bay Marina August 14-16, the Club’s Third Annual “Vagabond” Fall Southern Bay Cruise started August 22nd once boats, most from Annapolis, reached Solomons Island at Zahniser's Marina.

Scheduled to end September 7 in Cambridge, meeting up with the rest of the Club for Labor Day weekend before returning to Annapolis, the cruise will extend for 17 days, 11 under sail, covering an anticipated 370 miles, and stopping at 7 marinas en-route, plus anchoring out.

Almost ten boats are expected to participate. Six days will be layovers to visit local attractions. The planned itinerary is Solomons Island to Great Wicomico River, Mill Creek, to York River (Riverwalk Landing Marina), with an opportunity to see the Yorktown Battlefield & Museum, then on to Hampton City (Hampton Public Pier), providing sightseeing in Hampton, on to Cape Charles and then on to Stutts Creek (Mathews YC) for a visit in Mathews.

Next is to Deltaville (Doziers Regatta Point Marina) for a visit to Deltaville with an optional anchor out in Indian Creek, then traveling to the Potomac River, Smith Creek (Corinthian YC), followed by the St. Marys River, with a visit to St. Mary's City, back to Solomons Island, and Mill Creek, then to the Choptank River (Cambridge YC), for a visit to Cambridge and a sail on the skipjack, Nathan of Dorchester, joining the BCYC Labor Day Weekend Party for dinner at the Cambridge YC, and finally returning Labor Day to Annapolis.
