Friday at Sperry Charleston Race Week

Light air thus far (9 knots, 80 degrees) at Sperry Charleston Race week today, Friday, the first official day of racing at the regatta which runs through Sunday, April 23. This year, sailors from 24 U.S. states and nine foreign countries have registered to compete at CRW. Among them are the skippers of 76 J/70s, which represents one of the largest gatherings for this one-design class. Many Chesapeake sailors are on the scene on J/70s and other boats...

Here's an interview from the tactician of the Hampton-based XP 44 Sitella, which debuted last year on the Bay at the Down the Bay Race.

It’s not just the sailors psyched to be on the scene at the 22nd edition of CRW. "Quantum is thrilled to once again be a sponsor of Sperry Charleston Race Week,” said Ed Reynolds, president of the Michigan-based Quantum Sails. “And we’re looking forward to a great event. It is a great opportunity for us to showcase our abilities and commitment to enhancing the regatta experience for all the participants.”

Malcolm Gosling, the president and CEO of Gosling-Castle Partners, Inc., the purveyors of fine rum from Bermuda, says. “We are proud to sponsor Charleston Race Week. This our 12th year as a partner to this wonderful event. We have a deep heritage and have been involved in major sailing events for a long time, going back to the 1800s.”

Title sponsor Sperry was founded in 1935 by avid sailor, inventor and intrepid explorer Paul Sperry. From the invention of the world’s first boat shoe to a full collection of sea-tested lifestyle products, Sperry equips all those who believe the best stories are written with their feet. Proud sponsor of the U.S. Sailing Team and numerous world-class regattas, including CRW and Head of the Charles, Sperry is distributed around the world at independent and department stores in North America, Asia, Europe and Latin America, Sperry specialty retail stores and at Sperry.com

Thank you, sponsors for making this great regatta happen again!
