Racing Roundup July 27-29 (with Wow factor)
Mother Nature was gentler to racing sailors this weekend after an extended heat wave and granted us sunny skies, bearable summer temperatures, and light to decent breeze for late July. Here’s your SpinSheet racing roundup for July 27-28.
The Hampton Sprints—WOW! Six Short Races
From Lin McCarthy’s Southern Bay Racing News You Can Use.... The polls, the focus group, and the consensus of all the racers at the Hampton SPRINTS post-race party were a unanimous chorus of, “WOW! That was really, really fun!”
It began at the Friday evening Happy Hour/Skippers Meeting and went through the Saturday post-race awards party on the flag deck at Hampton Yacht Club. It was different big boat racing, i.e. six 1.4 nm races, a beat and a run to the finish each time, and then. . . do it again! Nobody wore out, everyone finished the program.

Windmill Nationals
The Windmill International Championship was held at the Fishing Bay Yacht Club, Friday July 26 and ran through the 28th. The fleet of 24 boats was made up of competitors from Bermuda, New Hampshire, and everywhere in between.
Racers faced a weekend of challenging light air conditions. Roll tacking, playing each shift, and staying in pressure were crucial to placing well. The competition was tight, with only a few points separating boats. The final race of the regatta determined our winners.
Our 2019 International Champions are Arthur and Max Anosov from Florida. Our runner up team; Brett and Matthew Sponar from Bermuda/ Maryland. And in third place was Larry Christian and Allie Sponar from New Hampshire/Maryland.
