Really enjoying these Monday nights. Wind started out nice, but very shifty, but we managed to rig and depart well. Sailed to canton turning basin and did some practice up there, sailed in and out a bit, then down to Anchorage and went in behind the marina a bit to show my students they are capable of maneuvering through other boats and docks. They did great, and I would have spent more time in there but the wind really petered out at that point. We hustled to get back and did some rocking to make it home. Docked upwind in about half a knot. (180 deg off from where it started.)

Took Akimbo to Whitehall Bay with James, Ivan, and Anne. Anchored at the end of Mill Creek and had dinner at Cantler's. Really stupidly hot and hardly any wind. Took a quick dip as soon as we anchored and got some relief. Rigged 2 hammocks above deck for Ivan and I to start the night, but with an eye on the rain and potential thunderstorms, we packed it in when it started drizzling at 2. No real storm hit us though, just a bit of heavier rain close to 5am. Got going around 7:30 and felt optimistic with a very nice 10-12kts NE, and lots of clouds blocking the sun. By the time we went under the bridge the wind was already dying down and the clouds burned off, and we suffered the rest of the way home. We actually got our camping fans out to cool off in the cockpit eventually. Docked at 2ish just as thunder started at DSC and some light sprinkles. Skipped pump out and diesel top up today but will get it done tomorrow lunch time.
Super fun, definitely still need a lot of spin setting practice but feel like I'm starting to get it. Best race was the last one, we kept improving. Wind was medium high, but very switchy. Maybe 10-12 mostly east-ish. Lovely weather.
Lowish flakey wind but it picked up a bit later. We overtook a couple boats on the downwind leg. Did well on jib.
Lovely weather mid 80s, pretty decent wind as well (5-10 kts), though very extreme fluctuations between N and W. Made docking quite QUITE tricky, but we managed at the T head and also in the slip on a second try. 3.5hrs.
Just a really particularly fun night with students. Lovely weather, decent breeze, great students. Low 90s, 5-10kts (patchy though) NW
Both students did a practice downwind docking at the T head before heading into the slip, but then the wind shifted to solidly N mid sail drop and we were making too much leeway. No problem, hoisted the jib and explained this is why we keep it handy. Sigh. Turned around and came back in, blew the jib and docked just fine. It was pretty tricky tbh and am really pleased at how well my student did at the tiller. He was quite anxious but did awesome.
Took sonar #8 out with 5 crew to race. We did ok in the first race but had a lot of trouble getting started in the second and third. Wind was nice, 8-10 SW. 5-8:30
Horrendously low wind. We did finish though, and were ahead of Barebones for a long time. They eventually overtook us but we came in just one place behind. (6/10 in our class) About 8 hours underway total. Wind 2-6 kts , ESE ish ?
Was very surprised rc didn't cancel tonight, but wind was fairly low while we were out and lightning was just starting on final leg of the race. I was on mast instead of jib, and I think I like it up there on Chessie. Did get a tap to the head from the boom on a jibe, but only just. If I had been standing up more or been any further back on the boat it would have been really bad. Not sure how I'm supposed to run the clew of the spinnaker back without passing the shrouds though...
Taught my first actual complete intro (no student had ever been on a boat before) class and it went great! Wind was low but actually not terrible, around 6 pretty consistently once we got out of the patchiness by dominoes. I was so proud of their docking! :-D Mid 80s and cooled off a bit later. Wind 6ish SE. Just about 4hrs with prep and derigging.
