Today was the first Spring Frostbite race at SMSA, and the start of the racing season in Southern Maryland. I helmed the Barba Roja today and we managed a very strong third place finish in a field of six boats. The wind was gusty and shifty, and I was reminded that I still need lots more practice time behind the wheel. Overall a great race and a great start to the season!

I got a last-minute invite to take a little sunset cruise and enjoy the gorgeous weather. The wind was light but the views were spectacular!

Took a nice cruise around the Patuxent with some friends to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather. Tried to do some downwind helm practice but a big wind shift changed that plan. Enjoyed a great sunset riding back in from the Bay. A great day on the water!

After getting involved with sailing last year and having a ton of fun racing with friends I've decided to go for 100 days this year. I plan to do it as a mix of sailing and paddling.
I started off on the right foot this afternoon with an invitation for an impromptu afternoon cruise on my friend's boat where I do the vast majority of my sailing.
Nice mild temperatures for January and a light but steady 5-8kt southerly breeze made for a relaxing ride. I worked on helm skills in preparation for our upcoming racing season. Visibility was tricky in places due to some patchy fog from the morning rain.
