After the ice broke up, I was able to get out of Turner's Creek and take advantage of some heavy winds.  I "flew" my Sunfish out to Red #2 on the Sassafras in about 15 minutes.  Perfect west winds made for super fast broad reaches.

Turner's Creek was frozen over between January 8th and February 8th, so I was not able to get out.  This day was the first on the Kayak and I was pushing through the ice and dodging ice flows.

Sailing on Turner's Creek has been an annual event for the past 12 years.  This year is was extremely foggy and no wind, but we did it anyway.  We were met by our neighbor, Rick Bacastow, in his Kayak.  Good times!

This is my second year qualifying as a Century Club member, although this year, I just made it by the skin of my teeth!  I start every year with a New Year's Day sail on Turners Creek and out to the Sassafras River with my son and neighbors.  This will be our 9th year with this tradition, and it has become legendary with our neighbors on the creek who look forward to seeing our colorful Sunfish sails plying the waters.  After our sail, we then retreat to our home for coffee, bloody Marys and other treats.  That annual event kicks off my season of sailing, powerboating, kayaking and swimming as often as possible.  One New Years Day, the creek was so iced over, I could not launch the boats, so we had fun taking photos of us in short wetsuits dragging the boats across the ice, longing to get to the water.  We were able to sail this New Years Day, we had light winds, and it was drizzling, but we didn’t care, we needed to get on the water!

I look at my boating log from this past year and I see that I was able to sail 60% of the time, which was almost as frequent as 2019, so I guess the 2020 lockdowns didn’t affect us after all!  Similar to years past, I was invited on a week long journey with a good friend of mine on his Benneteau.  We usually meet up with a flotilla (FLOT) and head somewhere interesting, like Rhode Island, Norfolk, etc.  This year, we kind of laid low and gunk holed around the central part of the bay, visiting St. Michaels, Cambridge and the West River.  We had a great time because it is not about the destination, it is about the journey!
