I had early morning commitments, so I didn't get out on the water until after 10 a.m. Ugh. Humid, hot, sunny, sweaty. The water is bathtub-warm. At least no jellies in Crab Creek and Little Aberdeen Creek.
Century Club: Eva Hill
It's been too good to be true, but yesterday on the Rhode River (rafted up with Whisper and John F.) and swimming the day away, we spied a few nettles. Boo!
After much back and forth, we decided to catch the Sherwood Forest fireworks on 7/3. Not wanting to be in the scrum, we arrived near St. Helena Island near lunchtime. Swimming, hanging out, drinks, dinner -- it was great on and in the water. Pleasant sleeping temperature as well; the wake-after-wake was well over by the time we went to sleep.
Thank goodness for the breeze; otherwise it would be stifling. Welcome to July.
Crab Creek and South River today.
It wouldn't ordinarily be the kind of night - weather wise -- that we'd do an overnight on Calypso. Hot and humid doesn't make for comfortable sleep. But we went out to Whitehall Bay to swim, and to try out the new generator, which enables use of AC at anchor. Guess what -- it works!!! This opens up a whole summer of nights on the Bay.
After the prior day's thunderstorms, the heat broke. A grey misty morning, but cool. Crab Creek crawl.
Even getting out at 7 a.m. isn't much of a help. But I pushed towards Shadow Point.
I keep taking photos of this heron. It seems young, so I'm like an aunt taking photos of it as it grows.
First swim of the season, in Harness Creek. Great way to beat the heat wave. Heron was our ride.
After the last two stormy days, a cool and crisp morning. Crab Creek. Saw two herons jockeying for a beach head.
We'd hoped for an overnight, but Saturday's weather was soupy. Sunday worked out much better. Though it was grey and cool, with some rain, the wind was perfect for a sail across the Bay and back. We looked good docking too -- it helps not to have a west wind.
