Today we had a short cruise across the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.  This canal was originally dug by hand in 1824 to connect the Chesapeake Bay with the Delaware Bay.  An economic boon to Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania.  Today it is still an important shipping and leisure craft channel.
Another beautiful day and for fun I trolled a fishing line for stripped bass- but caught nothing.
Docked at Delaware City Marina a narrow channel but very sheltered.  We walked to the small but pretty town.  That evening we were met by good friends and former neighbors Stan and Helen Spence who now live in Wilmington, about a 30 min drive away.  Stan was out of town but Helen picked us up and we had a lovely dinner at her home!  Thank you Helen.
Due to high winds we decided to stay another day before attempting to cruise down the Delaware Bay to Cape May. The marina dock master held a nightly meeting at 4 pm to help boaters decide if the weather, wind, waves, and tides were favorable enough to transit the bay, a very open and notoriously difficult body of water.  We took his guidance, waited that second day and enjoyed a bike ride around the town.
