Kayaking on Whitehall

Trip dates:
Monday, June 6, 2022 to Tuesday, June 21, 2022
Trip length:
15 days
Type of watercraft:
Kayak/canoe/rowboat

6/6: Kayaked into the canal to fish for snakeheads - no bites. Picked up a couple of plastic pieces. I was being so quiet that a muskrat swam within a paddle length before realizing I was there.

6/7: Cloudy, 75F, S@15-20. Stiff paddle in the wind to Ridout Cr. Two sailboats anchored in the creek. Picked up several plastic bits.

6/8: Paddled up Whitehall past the marina. No plastic today.

6/9: Used the rowing dinghy to fish. Caught and released a small perch. No other bites.

6/10: Rowing dinghy into the canal. Picked up one piece of plastic - looks like the back to an instrument.

6/11: Paddled to Minnow Cr. Found an antifreeze jug and a plastic pool decoration. No wind, 71F. Nice calm day on the water.

6/12: Paddled up Ridout Cr. Picked up one piece of plastic. Several boats out.

6/14: Paddled to the mouth of Meredith Cr and pickedup one piece of plastic. Mostly smooth water with only a few boats out. No wind driven waves.

6/15: Paddled up Whitehall past the marina. Found a bunch of plastic today, including a 5-gal bucket. Lots of wrappers and smaller plastic bits.

6/16: Paddled up Ridout Cr. No plastic found.

6/17: Kayak fishing in the cove. Caught and released one perch, two others hooked but not landed. Picked up a plastic bottle. Breezy out in the creek.

6/18: Paddled up the canal. Picked up a bunch of plastic pieces and a pool float ring. Talked with a fisherman at one of the houses about snakeheads he's been catching.

6/19: Rowing dinghy into the canal to fish for snakeheads - no luck. Surprisingly, no mosquitoes so far this summer. Neighbors seems to be treating for them. Unfortunately, that also reduces the number of lightning bugs.

6/20: Kayak fishing in the canal. No bites. Watched a raccoon along the shoreline.

6/21: Rowing dinghy in the cove and moved to Lux for this weekend's trip.
