Governor's Cup Start a Nailbiter!

Just kidding! A gentle 5-7 knot southwesterly blew under cloudy skies for the first of two Annapolis starts for the St. Mary's College of MD Governor's Cup Yacht Race at 3 p.m.. But hey, the Pride of Baltimore was the committee boat, and that did provide a pretty backdrop as well as some drama, as a few boats clustered in her lee/bad air and had to be pushed off the bowsprit by a team of young Pride crew in matching shirts. A little embarrassing, but highly amusing to watch as the rest of the fleet tip toed over the start line and down the Bay for one of those 70-mile sails in 5-10 knot winds that makes (and breaks?) friendships.

The next start in Annapolis and also for the Potomac leg off Dahlgren, VA: 6 p.m. SpinSheet will be at the Annapolis start once again. Bear with us as we get all of our pictures processed and up on spinsheet.com Monday. This slide show's just a teaser....

You have all night to check your friends' progress here. Safe and fun sailing to all Gov Cup competitors!
