Four-Time SpinSheet Century Club Member Anna Patterson 168 Days

Stepping Out of her Comfort Zone = Best Time of the Summer

Four-time SpinSheet Century Club member Anna Patterson competes on the sailing team for Christopher Newport University. As is the case with other college sailors who’ve accepted our challenge of logging 100 days on the water within the calendar year, she tends to go well beyond 100. Here’s a bit about her 2019 journey in her words:

How many times have you been a SpinSheet Centurion?

I started participating in the century challenge in 2016 when Mary and Geoff  Ewenson told me I should start tracking my days! I have now hit 100 days for four years in a row! It’s a fun for me to keep track of my days and I am excited for the massive challenge of keeping it up during graduate school in another year.

How many days do you have logged?

I hit 100 days on July 11! (as of October 29, she was at 168)

What's your most memorable on-water moment to date in 2019?

My most memorable moment was at Hampton Yacht Club's Southern Bay Race Week this year. We stepped outside of our comfort zone and decided to sail a J/70 with some of the girls I grew up racing with and our sailing director, with only our sailing director having ever touched the boat before.

The regatta served as a sort of reunion for us as the first time we all sailed together since we were together in the program three years ago. We enjoyed every minute of the regatta together and had an amazing time!

What upcoming event on the Chesapeake are you most excited about and why?

I am super excited about getting back on the water this season for my final year of college sailing with CNU! I have sat out from all small-boat sailing since the end of the spring season after injuring my shoulder and am ready to hit the water full force with my team.
