Chesapeake Yacht Restoration Guild's Elf Classic

The Chesapeake Yacht Restoration Guild (CYRG)'s third annual ELF Classic will start May 18.

The race is a recreation of yacht racing of the 1880s. In the time, yachtsmen worked half a day Saturdays in Boston and would take a train to Marblehead, MA, with the start of the race when the train doors opening in Marblehead. The yachtsmen would move quickly to the waters edge and row to their yacht and stand vertical on deck and tip their hat before anchor and sails could be raised. Then they would sail to their destination, anchor, and row ashore to sign in to end the race.

This year's race will again be from Eastport YC (EYC) to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM)), May 18. Yacht ELF will also be celebrating he 125th anniversary, as the oldest active American racing yacht. Please enter your vessel by clicking here, we are extending the entry deadline to May 5th.

Plan to watch the race start, about 9:00 AM May 18th at EYC and the finish at CBMM at about 4:00 PM.
