Captain’s Cup 2013

With favorable breezes from the SW, a suspicious weather day turned into a wonderful day on the water for the Eastern Shore Sailing ASsociation. This year’s Captain’s Cup venue was mixed into the annual, historic Skipjack Races off Deal Island, Maryland. Photo opportunities, classic boats, and classic sailing were available to those who chose to witness history once again.

Thanks to our Past Commodore and Founding Member, Deke Sheller, this year’s racing for everyone was executed in historic, perfect, Eastern Shore style. Deke pulled off another race within a race, within a sporting event, within a tradition that dates back to the 1900’s. (I should know, I’ve been with him.) Early within the Captain’s Cup, it seemed that Roseanne Peers at the helm of “Wind Dancer” was commanding an early lead, but the “vagaries of Tangier” pushed Barry Hall of “Second Wind” ahead, while Gene Williams, skippering “Ann Isotropy”, vied for a favorable direction dependent position. At the Finish Line, it was Barry Hall taking Line Honors, followed by Roseanne Peers, then Gene Williams; however, Roseanne missed one of the Marks on the Course, so Gene was moved to Second. Congratulations to our intrepid skippers!
