Kent Narrows Power Squadron... Education Plus Cruising!

Kent Narrows sail and power squadronWelcome to the Kent Narrows Power Squadron where, in an atmosphere of friendship and learning, we strive to increase boating safety. KNS&PS offers courses and seminars for the Fall and Winter that include: Winterization, Piloting, Fire Extinguisher Training, Cruise Planning, Weather, and Partner in Command. (Please see KNS&PS website for details).

A Piloting Course starts on 06 JAN 2014 at 6:30 PM,

Kent Island Volunteer Fire Dept, 1610 Main St., Chester, MD

Piloting is the first course in the sequence of USPS courses on navigation, covering the basics of coastal and inland navigation.  This course focuses on navigation on recreational boats today and embraces GPS as a primary navigation tool while covering enough of traditional techniques so the student will be able to find his/her way even if their GPS fails.

For information on this course please contact D/Lt John Locke, AP 443 262-8271, [email protected] Completion of some classes may lead to reduction in Insurance rates.

Fun on the water is also an important part of our activities.  KNSPS was well represented on the D/5 Summer Cruise to the Summer Council Meeting and Crossing Paths Reunion/Rendezvous of D/5 and D/27 in Cape Charles, VA. Ten KNSPS members on three boats made the trip along with a number of other D/5 boats which came from as far away as Philadelphia.

Our monthly meetings are held at the Kent Island Yacht Club for dinner and a speaker discussing various topics of interest to boaters on the Chesapeake and beyond. The next meeting will be October 16 and prospective members are always welcome.
