Back Creek YC's Sailing Excitement and More

SAILING EXCITEMENT AND NEW SEASON PLANNING

Back_Creek_YCBack Creek YC members Pat and Tom Bernhart were thrilled to meet Jim Spithill, skipper of the Oracle Yacht at the 34th America’s Cup during the Annapolis Sail Boat Show Weekend.  They thanked him for providing one of the truly exciting events of the year: his skills demonstrated in winning the Cup despite being down 8-1 in the Regatta, with New Zealand needing only one more victory.

He and Gary Jobson provided an in-depth look behind the scenes in one of the most exciting finishes in sporting history, especially in sailboat racing, at the Show Seminar’s.  It was an especially motivating experience for the Bernharts to meet the very down-to-earth Australian who closely related to the sailors he spoke to and afterwards chatted with.

They expressed their enjoyment for an exciting event that was shared with the Cup’s largest audience, both at San Francisco Bay, and by live television and U-Tube replays, that Spithill reports has won new adherents to sailing.

This encounter preceded BCYC’s last on-the-water boating event on October 19th, where many Club members enjoyed a Western BBQ, live Music, and Dancing, at Gail and Bob Higginbotham's Marina docks on Minnow Creek, Annapolis.   A Halloween Happy Hour was held on October 25th, hosted by Colin and Christine Soucey at their house.  The Club’s Annual Meeting will be held November 3rd at the Fleet Reserve Club to make plans for next season and elect new officers.  Join us for events; click here for details.
