SC Swimmer Dies During Great Chesapeake Bay Swim

A Mount Pleasant, SC man named Robert Matysek was pulled from the Chesapeake Bay after he suffered cardiac arrest one mile into the swim. Matysek, 58, was taken to Anne Arundel County Medical Center where he was soon pronounced dead.

The Great Chesapeake Bay Swim is a 4.4-mile long swimming event between Sandy Point State Park and Kent Island. The 2014 event drew nearly 600 swimmers, and the winner, 18-year old Andrew McKissick of Ellicott City, finished the course in one hour and 29 minutes. The event raises money for the March of Dimes and other organizations.
