What a blast, racing out of Galesville on Specific Gravity.

Took another group of high schoolers out with Annapolis sailing school. Wind was light but we had a blast!
Spent a few hours showing some high schoolers around the mouth of the seven, as their first time on a sailboat. I love this sort of thing. Also had a wonderful Sunday night races - enough breeze to move, and enough shifts to make strategy pay off. Great day on the water!
However, my hands are starting to act up. I'm going to take a few days off, and when I do get back on the boat I'm going to think of ways to reduce the strain.
Another day with the laser. I think I'm starting to get the hang of it, at least and so far as I can do a maneuver with little fear of tipping over. I still need to work on every single aspect of it but I suck a lot less than I did yesterday!
Spent some time practicing basic maneuvers, as well as connecting the dots on this light puffy day. Another decent workout.
Beautiful evening on the water. Almost no breeze but we still got two races off on a very short course. Nothing like light wind sailing to make you pay for the little mistakes. Much was learned!
Spent the mornings learning to sail a laser, then spent the afternoon (trying to) sail it, then did Sunday night races. Insane 180 degree shifts off Horn point, 10kt puffs and 0kt holes - hands down the craziest wind I've ever experienced. I didn't take any pictures, but that's ok. I'll be back on the laser asap.
AWESOME
Distance race out to Thomas point lighthouse, though we shortened it in the end, to make sure we got back before sunset. Had a terrible start and terrible maneuvers, but we kept consistently executing better throughout the race. It was pretty gusty out there, and we weren't the only ones making mistakes, but we kept the sail up instead of reefing and we did a good job of managing power, playing the main and/ or feathering, though I should have thought to move the jib cars back. I spent a lot of time with my butt off the rail and over the water, hiked out like a plank, trying to remember that my son holds that position for hours every day during 420 practice and regattas. I'm more impressed than ever at his athleticism, and more jealous, too, at how much fun it is.
My favorite race of the year so far!
Took a Rainbow out for some solo tracking practice. Wanted to practice starts but the wind was laying down so I came in. Luckily it picked back up and we hard a great race on the West River aboard Specific Gravity.
