A nice breezy evening on the West River
Century Club: Mario Santana
Spent an amazing day on the skipjack Lady Katie, doing a parade and a race for the Maryland Seafood Festival. Read about her here: http://lastskipjacks.com/boats/ladykatie.html
A terrible forecast turned into a wonderful day karma from zero knots of wind to ten and even thirteen. Our speed felt good, but we need to figure out why we struggle. In our placement
Great afternoon practicing and chatting. So much fun, I forgot to take pix...

A promising breeze died off so we had to shorten the course. After a 2nd row start we played the shifts and asserted our rights on a bigger sailboat to round the first mark in first! Then we steadily lost places on the long legs as we fought tooth and nail to match other boats' speed. I'm still not sure why we were so consistently slower than almost every other boat, but I do know that we had a blast trying like hell to figure it out!
Drizzling chill in the morning but the breeze was perfect for spin practice with G on Chinook. Then Sunday Night Races in a glorious evening. Great day in the water
Took nimbus out solo today, I had every intention of practicing standing starts. But the wind was up, and I hadn't soloed a rainbow in a while, so I decided to just go fast and/ore sideways, and cruise up to 7 to the bridge. On the way back, found myself in a tacking duel with a larger boat. Not that I'm a super competitive person or anything, but you know what they say about two boats on the water. (I won.)
A really great race, marred only my unwise decision to experiment with dowsing techniques during a race... The best part? It has been a full week since I lost a phone overboard!
