roundabout wins
- We took the win in a 24 foot boat holding off the larger A fleet and B fleet boats that went the same direction. In 2024, we
- went to Middle Ground light house 1st riding a flood to the lighthouse downwind on a rumb-line course.
- Then came back out of the harbor playing the Elizabeth River side of the harbor, short tacking the south edge to avoid the flood looking for the change to an ebb.
- At the HRBT, we cracked off on a tight reach working to stay ahead of Black Widow at Thimble Shoals.
- Returning to Old Point Comfort, we sailed on the edge of the Shoals balancing boat speed against current. (The wind was off starboard bow requiring a hard beat to get stop of Thimble Shoals)
- About halfway down the leg to Old Point Comfort, we set the symmetrical spinnaker and reached to rather e trance to Mill Creek.
- Black widow caught us and was slightly ahead to weather, however she was under the lee of the land of Fort Monroe and Chamberlin
- We stayed slightly offshore rounding the point in more breeze, Black Widow to leeward.
- Our transition from spinnaker to headsail coming into Mill Creek was seamless and we handle won the race overall.
- Notes -
- The Tartan 110 Virginia H III was the 1st boat to finish that went to Thimble Shoals 1st.
- The wind lightened in the harbor challenging the return from Middle Ground light to Old Point Comfort. Wind was 10 -18
