Gorgeous afternoon, still cannot get over how warm the water is for this time of year. Have major concerns about algae growth in all our creeks this summer given the amount of algae I'm seeing already for this time of year. But on the Plus side they're dredging our Ogleton channel, hard at work!

  • Dredging equipment showed up yesterday
  • My wildlife guide

Myself and a few others with 6.5'+ draft boats are very happy to see this channel being dredged finally. Impassable at low tide for higher draft boats. Roger Bohnert and Sally Clark with their Swan 48 and by far the deepest draft boat in the lake are doing the happy dance for sure.

  • Not bad for just getting over a fever for last four days
  • This is what climate change looks like, never seen this type of growth in legal team in my 20 years here

Inadvertent climate modification by as humans is very real, globally this winter has been absurdly warm and locally it goes beyond absurd. Makes me worry about what's going to happen this summer with bay temperatures algae growth etc. Well the whole day just turn into one glob of algae one year?

  • Chester Yawl - a wherry style efficient pulling boat
  • All quiet in Chesapeake harbor
  • Who knew you can use the cycling app Strava for rowing?!

Another absurdly warm winter day on the water.

I have been on the water since four years old but it never occured to me row. Then I went down the Grand Canyon in 2008 on a rowing raft for 21 days rowing 110 miles of the 205 miles we covered. Rowing some of the largest and longest rapids in North America, I was determined to keep rowing on my return.

Bought a Chester Yawl pulling boat kit from Chesapeake Light Craft (15', 100 lbs) picture here and have been rowing every since. This is the ultimate rowing boat for the bay, super light, quick and stable and works well in bay chop. The seat and foot brace are easily removed allowing for overnight camping on board, which I done a few times.

  • Wet balsa core mostly removed, inspection to right was removed and relocated
  • New core installed with Airexpcx compression blocks for the bow cleat, forguy deck pad
  • Completed with new skin, back up plates, deck pate

A long winter project on our J35, thought I had a 1' square wet balsa core repair around an inspection report up in the anchor locker area. As I cut open the underside deck skin water came flowing out. Kept cutting until I found dry balsa core, ended up with a very large triangle 38" across and 32" tall. Have built surf, windsurf boards and boats and repaired many boats so not a big deal but I can say this is something I will never do again! Upside down in a confined space, the deconstruction and prep work was the worst part. A large thanks to Alan Johnstone for putting up with my technical questions.
