Coast Guard in Lake Ogleton fixing the metal entrance marker that was run down a few weeks back.
12 to 15 not breeze out of the east, nice and cool, covered about 42 miles in about 5 1/2 hours. Reach down the bay to Pooles Island broad reach over toward Herrington Harbour a nice beat back to Atown.y
Quick 45 minute paddle, stopped at our boat in the mooring for a quick check in. Nice cool breeze out of the east out on the bay.
Put in at West Potomac Park south of the Lincoln Memorial, water was kinda nasty after all the rain until we hit the one way current coming down the Potomac north of Georgetown. A nice change from the Chesapeake paddling.
Left mid afternoon in a light and occilating easterly, intended to go to Rhode River but ended up in Whitehall Bay. Cool evening of sleep with light northerly filling in around 10pm.
Got Blue Mind ready to go sailing off the mooring again, massive menhaden die off with hundreds and hundreds of dead fish up against the shore in Lake Ogleton, the stink was beyond belief.
Tough call but decided to leave our J 35 on the mooring in Lake Ogleton , stripped all the sails, stack pack, life sling etc. Extra penant on the mooring. Storm is abating as I'm writing this, all is good. The lake is a great storm hole unless it's blowing east north east and over 60 kn sustained.
