  • Amy driving down bay
  • Wye River, Shaw Bay anchorage
  • Binocular searching for dolphins
  • Rounding Bloody point heading home Sunday

So it doesn't get much better than the last two days on the Chesapeake Bay. Light southwest wind on Saturday across the bay around Bloody Point, up Eastern Bay in into the Wye River. Spent the night in Shaw bay. Cold front came through at night, sailed off the anchor in 16 to 20 kn northerly, came out of the Wye roaring in flat water at near 8 knots with the biggest sails we had on board. Long beat after rounding Bloody point in 14 to 16 kn all the way back to Annapolis. Beautiful blue sky puffy clouds. A perfect 20th anniversary outing! And a welcome mental health break from the chaos in our world. We have all kinds of gratitude for being able to have this lifestyle when so many others are struggling mightily.

Around Lake Ogleton, water is finally looking less brown/red and more green.

Saturday, May 30, 2020 to Sunday, May 31, 2020

Two back to back days on Blue Mind. Small cold front Saturday light easterly wind and then Sunday 10 to 20 at the north,  both days blue skies, big puffy clouds. With our world in turmoil it was a welcome break from the news and the pandemic.

  • Lake Ogleton algae bloom

The water quality is definitely looking like an algae bloom. Red brown for over 2 weeks now.

  • Commissioning at Jamestown Yacht Yard
  • Newport Harbor Memorial Day weekend - pandemic ghost town
  • Blowing by Block Island at 7 knots
  • Cold, drizzly and rolling most of the way
  • Sun came out off of Atlantic City
  • Upper Delaware Bay - another pandemic ghost town
  • Back home

A 46' Swan positioned last fall for the 2020 summer in New England had its plans altered due to the pandemic.

The trip turned into a single rumbline, one way point, dead downwind sail with preventer from Montauk Point to Cape May with a large 6 - 8' east ground swell mixed with 20 knots NE wind and waves. Significant pitching and rolling for 24 hours, the night was as black as I have experienced offshore. A fair amount of frieghters in separation zones and fishing boats to keep track of, thank god for AIS. Temps out on the ocean never broke 49 degrees, all kinds of fun.

An amazing set up led to favorable currents up a very quiet motor up the Deleware Bay AND across the C&D canal, a first for me and everyone else on board.
