For the past 3 months I was using a loaner prop from Bruntton's.  It was the Varifold foldering prop.  It worked well, but as a cruiser, I did not like the feel when backing.  My regular prop and the prop associated with my PHRF rating is a Bruntton's Autoprop.  With that prop I can go an extra 1.2 knots under power.

Today I moved over to the haulout slip for a short-haul.  Dr. Roderick Sampson, of King Propulsion here in Virginia Beach, came over to reinstall my Autoprop.  He had prepped the prop with Black Widow barnacle protection from Petit, which looked really nice.

While we were out of the water, I changed cutless bearing.  After going back in the water, we took a quick spin to test out the clean prop and check for leaks.

I was working on the boat on a hot still day when the wind suddenly picked up and I noticed boats heading out.  I called Cathy and a friend and suggested we take a sail.  We headed out of Little Creek and spent a beautiful afternoon sailing around the Bay.  Great wind and weather (for a change).

  • Modus Vivendi sailing west across lower Bay

Sailed up to Back Creek with Modus Vivendi and Virginia Breeze on Saturday, July 25, 2020 (actually motored).  Nice day but no wind, so had to use the motor all the way north.  Spent a nice afternoon and evening on anchor.

Left on Sunday with light wind.  We motored out of Back Creek, but sailed part way down the east side of Poquoson Flats.  I gave up on the wind, but when we reached Back River entrance, the wind picked up again.  We were tacking toward the CCBT but were rewarded with continual lifters.  By the time we reached Thimble Shoal Channel, we were able to point directly to Little Creek, our home port, because the wind had clocked so far west.  We had a beautiful sail.

Skippered LCSA boat Wharf Rat for Andy who was unavailable that night.  We were caught in a wild storm but our vessel and crew all did fine without mishap.  It was an exciting night of sailing.

Due to an unexpected event, we decided to return to our home port.  We took a long run under power from Little Bay to Little Creek in Norfolk.

We decided to make another stop at Little Bay off Fleets Bay.  We have found that Little Bay is the only place where the waters have not been loaded with jellyfish.  We finally got the chance to swim.

Finally headed south from Solomons with lots of sailing until the wind died.  We anchored in Mill Creek off the Great Wicomico River.

We sailed (mostly) from Horseshoe Bend out the St. Mary's around Point Lookout and north to the Solomons.  We stopped at a marina for a change to ride out a storm that really never materialized.

We had enough wind to tack out the Potomac from Breton Bay to St. Mary's - another great day on the water.
