We left the West Canal Marina and headed to Tonawanda, New York. This is pretty much the end of the Erie canal, so that means we have traveled over 360 miles, 43+ locks, and have met countless wonderful people!

We spent Friday through Monday nights at the Tonawanda city dock, which is in a really great area - lots of restaurants, bars, shops, and a grocery store. We picked up our mail also – we have a forwarding service out of Green Cove Springs, Florida that we use. We were also able to go down to Buffalo, to the Anchor Bar. This is the place where the buffalo wing was first invented. We also went up to Niagara Falls and spent an afternoon there – magnificent!

This morning, July 20, we traversed the Black Rock Lock at Buffalo and are now on Lake Erie, headed to Dunkirk for the night.

We had a great time in Lyons, had some fabulous ciders and wines in Pittsford, then went to Medina for a couple of days. After that, we made our way to the West Canal Park and Marina just outside of Amherst, New York. We will be here until Friday, July 16. We actually have to work our real jobs (via telework) and do a few things on the boat. Had a really terrible storm here last night that brought down a lot of trees and damaged two vehicles.  Hide Aweigh emerged unscathed, thank goodness!

We left Brewerton on Wednesday the seventh and cruised to Crosslake, New York via the Erie canal. We anchored that night and the lake is lovely! On Thursday, July 8, we made our way to the stunning Seneca lake and stayed at a marina there. On July 9, we headed west toward Rochester and spent the night at Lyons City Dock- very nice!!

The Erie Canal locks are an absolute wonder! It's very cool to see how they work, despite the fact that the original Canal dates back to 1825, believe it or not. We traversed the first seven locks on July 1, and then stopped at the town of Scotia, New York (right outside of Schenectady) for the night.  We got an early start the next morning and cruised up through many more locks to the cute town of Little Falls, New York. We spent a couple of days there, touring around, doing some maintenance, and getting some provisions. We left there on the morning of July 4 and headed to Oneida Lake, where we anchored not far from Sylvan Beach. It was a beautiful night for all the fireworks that could be seen around the lake! Today, July 5, we are headed to the other side of the lake to Brewerton, New York. There, we plan to spend a couple of days checking the place out, getting some assistance from the boat yard mechanic there, and planning the next couple of weeks of our trip.

Found a great anchorage at Brielle, NJ for the night and then headed up the coast to NYC.  Beautiful trip!  Got to Shipyard Marina where we had planned to stay for a couple of days to explore the city, but the impact from the constant frerries was AWFUL!!!! We and Hide Aweigh got bounced a LOT and we headed up to Half Moon Bay in Croton-On-Hudson.  We opted to take the train back to the city to explore.  Worked on the boat for a couple of days and headed up to Kingston, NY for a night.  The next day, we got to the free dock at Troy.  Since there was not much there by way of provisions, we then proceeded about 30 minutes up to the Welcome Center at Watertown for 2 days--COOL Place!  Tomorrow, we will start up the Erie Canal!

Made our way down the DE Bay, and anchored near the CG Academy. We then went to Ventnor City, NJ and found a peaceful anchorage with a great view of the casinos.  The rail bridge was out so we were forced to go outside.  It was bumpy on the way out, but once about a mile out, the trip up to the Brigantine Gap was great! Stopped in Key Harbor Marina for some shore time, groceries, and fuel.  Great place and people!!
