My favorite part of the sail today was having 3 generation of women at the helm My dad also came out with us for the first time. Conditions got sporty as we tried to outmaneuver a squall that developed and mom was on the windward side as the boat was heeling at about the max without rails in the water and she didn't flinch. She was amazing!!

Sailing plans are written in the sand at low tide... This week was the perfect opportunity to start adapting myself to those wise words. This was supposed to be our big vacation of the year. The kids spend the week at sailing camp at HHS while the family stays on the boat for the week. Colin and I were supposed to be taking the boat out sailing while the kids were in camp during the day and then we would spend our evenings on the beach and poolside. Mother nature had other plans and finally unleashed all the wind and rain that she had been saving up for weeks prior. It was hard not to be disappointed and mourn the vacation I had been dreaming about for months. But not only did we spend quality time with new friends whose kiddos were also doing the camp, in the end the kids had a great time. This was a great test of whether our family was ready for boat ownership as we spent days stuck in the cabin of a 33 footer, often without propane, at the end of the T-head on A dock where we just rolled constantly and water slapped the hull all night long. Despite all of this, our 5-year-old only cried when we explained to her on Friday that we had to return the boat and wouldn't be able to stay again tonight. Can't ask for much more than that.
We had an amazing day at the HHS women underway women's regatta. Great wind and we were first over the line all three races and won our class :) I learned a lot from Lyzz and now have the idea to have someone record a video of me while we're tacking so I can work on my technique.
Colin had already taken off work for his ASA 103 class so we took the boat out for 9 straight hours (without autopilot which wouldn't turn on). We made it all the way to Tilghman island where we hove to and enjoyed lunch. We practiced tacking and jibing on our way in and even got better aquainted with the head and had our first pump out. The boat truly feels like home and we can't wait to have one of our own.
We went out to the green marker near B and came back in. the 8-year-old was whimpering on the way out and then navigated for us on the way back in. Since it was Mother's Day we also took Nana out with us and she had a great time! What a successful day.
Colin and I went out on Bugbear for the first time. We found the long sandbar and now have iNavx safely downloaded to our phone. Jayne said that since we made it out and back (twice!) without raising our voices once then it was a success.
