  • Swells coming from the river.

Filled my day with yard work, rototilled the garden, planted lettuce, beets and radish seeds, also peanuts. Went for my daily 3 mile walk and ended the day with a nice kayak around the creek. Very windy but the creek had huge swells coming out of the east, instead of the usual choppy waves with the occasional whie caps. Not sure I've ever seen this phenomenon before. I wonder what the river looked like.

  • Heeling hard, well, not really
  • The captain
  • New sail

Alan and I went out in his 15 foot Precision today for a couple of hours. He got a new mainsail as the old was was looking like it had had a hard life. Trying to learn all the parts of a sailboat and points of sail as we are going to take the ASA 101 class in June. I drove the boat for the first half when the wind was barely there and Alan the second half when the wnd picked up. It was chilly out but nice to be out on the water.

  • Mattox creek
  • Flowers on our beach.
  • We caught 12 catfish in an hour between the 2 of us.

Kayaked to the other side of the creek.  Cool out tho warmed up when the sun showed thru the clouds. We fished in the afternoon, I caught 3 catfish using thin strips of raw pork. Guess they'll eat anything.

  • I think he actually IS happy!

Went out with Alan on his 15 foot Precision to experience windy cold weather. Too windy for me, wish I could get over my fear of sailing. I truly am a fair weather boater.

But I went out anyway.  For the last 2 weeks the weather has been terrible for kayaking. But today promised 69 degrees and calm. So I was psyched to get out there.  Was a short paddle . Was 51 degrees with 9mph winds. I tried to paddle into the wind but the waves kept pushing me away.  So I probably only went about 300 yards which felt like 3 miles. I didn't want to capsize so I turned around and headed back which took like 5 minutes

  • The mallards scurrying away from me faster than I could catch up.
  • The darkening clouds should have been a clue.

The Weather Channel indicated no rain until after 6 so at 3:30 I put my kayak in to paddle to the other side of the creek and just look at some waterfront lots for sale. Right when I got to the other side of the creek across from the marina it began to sprinkle. Not too worried I decided to slowly meander toward home, taking the scenic route back. About 15 minutes later the skies opened up and it began to pour.  I skeddadled my way back to our beach but I got soaked anyway. So only a 35 minute paddle.  About 70 degrees out but no sun obviously. Saw some mallards that wanted nothing to do with me on the way.

  • Me. About to get stuck in the mud.
  • Friend Michelle.

Met up with a friend to kayak around the creek for a few hours. Very sunny but low 60s, so a little chilly. Only ones on the water, had the whole creek to ourselves.  Explored some of the water trails but it was low tide so unable to get in very far. Beautiful day. Can't wait for warmer weather.
