  • Alan still standing in the 10000 degree weather.

Alan paddleboarded and I kayaked over to party cove, ran into friends Steve who had just gotten a very nice center console Trailmaker. Very hot, yet it's supposed to be hotter tomorrow. I can't belive I ever complained about the cold in the wintertime and wished for the summer. Actually, it's not the heat thatbothers me, rather it's the humidity. I think this is Day 50 for me, halfway done

  • Ted and Margaret

Took friends Ted and Margaret out onthe pontoon boat way out into the Potomac, cruised down to horsehead cliffs, almost to Cobb Island and back. Very calm day. So still. Earlier today we saw about 25 dolphins in the creek, a first for us!

  • On the boat in the creek
  • Eagles!

Took friend Ted out on the Kiwi Kruzer down into the creek and out into the Potomac.  Boated by the whole peninsula of Colonial Beach and showed Ted the sights. Saw 2 eagles together in a tree, couldn't get too close as afraid we'd scare them off.

  • Huge waves again. They were huge at the water's surface anyway.
  • Toward the Potomac, I'm running out of things to take pictures of.
  • Our neighbors osprey nests. It has been abandoned for weeks. First time in 9 years that no osprey has made it their home.
  • Alan caught a pic of me as I came in.

Incredibly windy today, tho immediately around our dock it was calm. Funny how the air flow and land can block the wind. But the gusts were ferocious and I ended up just paddeling close to shore. Our horseshoe crab was still on the beach, was definitely dead as I poked at it with a stick, plus it was still upside down so that was another clue. Alan picked it up the threw it in the water for the fish to enjoy. Or whatever it is that munch down on those things. Plus it was starting to smell.

  • Ugh. Now what do I do with it?
  • A marsh other side of Wirts Wharf.
  • 20 foot waves, ok maybe they were 1 foot swells. Work with me here

2 days of windy wet weather kept me landbound. But today the sun peeked out and I ventured out into the wild blue yonder to hit 20 foot waves (it felt like 20 foot waves)and almost capsized my kayak. It was brutal, I paddled to the other side of Wirts Wharf where it was more sheltered and explored a bit. But getting back home was a challenge with this high waves creating over my little kayak. The white caps in the creek should have been a sign.  After putting my kayak on the rocks where I keep it, I saw a large horseshoecrab laying upside down on the beach, apparently washed up by the last 2 days of storms. At least I think it was dead. I didn't take its pulse. Who knew these creepy prehistoric looking things were in the water. Yuck.

  • Are we getting sick of pics of me yet?
  • Documentation of Alan for his century club entry

Went to the Potomac River Festival to watch the home town parage but it got so hot and we were so drippy all we wanted was to get home and get out on the water to cool off. So we did. Off into the Potomac to once again turned off the engine relax and read. I finished a Michael Connelly book, Nightshade which was good. Back home and did some cleaning and maintenance on the boat.

Very humid and hot day but cooler on the water. Upon our return we found a family of ducks resting on our beach. The babies were so cute,  I wanted to take them home with me. Oh, wait. I am home.

Took the Kiwi Kruzer out to middle of the Potomac, turned the engine off and alan and just relaxed and read our books. Hot day, Alan was able to get in the water to cool off, but water was way too chilly for wimpy me to get in more than up to my hips. Beautiful day. Loving on the weather.
