Alan on his paddleboard and me on the kayak, paddled across the creek to see a new dock being built. Hot day but nice out on the water.
Century Club: Karen Wood
But still waited until 5 to go out. Gentle breeze, warm sun, saw herons, osprey geese and swans. Kayaked over to the marina. Still for sale.
Yesterday, being a bust on the water due to thunder and lightning, we tried again today with friends Dave and Bobbie. Very nice day. Boated to the cliffs and turned the motor off and relaxed. So fun to visit with friends we've known for some 30+ years.
Started to take friends visiting from Virginia Beach out for a cruise, but didn't get far when we heard thunder. So we turned around and came back.
Have been busy with grandkids the past week. First day on the water in a while. Took them out kayaking.
Rained pretty steady yesterday and this AM, but finally got out at 5, very hot and steamy out. Paddled around the creek, one eagle flew over my head. No chance of me getting a pic.
Went to our friend's April and Bub for the afternoon/ evening, April took me out on her jet ski. It was a lot of fun. Water was choppy as there were more boats ans jet ski out on the water than I've ever seen it. A lot of bouncing around. But back to their house for king crab legs and crab cakes. Fun day. Lots of private fireworks on the creek in the eve.
I guess it wasn't as hot as last week, maybe high 80s today? Alan and I grabbed our ice teas and books and headed out to the Potomac to read and relax. I guess, not surprisingly, seeing as how today was the start of the July 4 long weekend, there were a number of boats out on the water, more than we usually see. But I don't think anyone had asked us for permission to be out on OUR waterway, the nerve. Yet, far far less boats than there probably is right now on say, Lake Anna, or Smith Mountain Lake. Those places are absolute zoos.
Pretty intense thunderstorms last night. Today rainy, cloudy until about 1. So went for my daily walk, did stuff around the house, then ventured out in my kayak to the other side of the creek to Flounder Fjord to check out the sunken sailboat, which, sure enough, remains sunken, firmly esconced in the mud. Several waterfowl en route, never can get decent pics. Of course, may have something to do with my phone in a waterproof barrier with lousy clear windows
Kayak to middle of the creek then the wind picked up and dark clouds headed my way so I headed on home, admittedly with some difficulty. 94 degree out at 6pm. Yikes.
