  • Abandoned nest now with 2 osprey moving in. Hope they stay tho I think it's way too late to be laying eggs and raising younguns.
  • Cloudy day
  • Nothing else interesting to take a picture of, not that I am all that interesting.

What a difference from the past few days. After a big storm blew in yesterday, we are experiencing a cloudy grey windy day. I still went out inthe kayak but the waves were so choppy I couldn't get very far. I did see 2 osprey sitting in a nest that has been abandoned all summer. Very happy to see them.

  • Alan's reflection in the water.
  • Looks like someone hit marker 11.
  • Not sure what this bird, too small to be a heron, almost looked like a sandpiper terrible pic.

Wow has it been HOT past few days. Crazy hot and humid. So instead of getting out on the water in the afternoon like I usually do, headed out at 9am.  Alan paddleboarded and I in my kayak.  Very calm, still water, amost mirror like.

  • Alan driving.
  • We were zipping along.

94 degrees out but we decided to cool off by getting into the Kiwi Kruzer and head over to Cobb Island.to get gas. The Potomac was as calm as I've ever seen it. We got to the island in 20 minutes, a record for us. Did not see another boat the entire trip. Good thing people know to stay out of our personal waterway.

  • The evil swans, don't be deceived by their cute looks, they are vicious!
  • But the babies were cute.
  • Requisite pic.
  • And yet, another one.

2 adult swans swam up to my beach as I was headed to my kayak. 2 babies with them. They proceeded to esconce themselves on the beach, and every time I started down the last few stairs they would hiss, start to charge, and flap their wings at me. They are huge close up and I didn't feel like being attacked by 2 viscious swans. But I had to go right by them to get to my kayak. So for a few minute, there was an impasse, but I really wanted to get my day on the water. I finally just stomped my feet and strode purposely toward them, and they, hissing and snarling,  backed off to the waterline. I got my kayak and dragged toward the water and that was big enough for them to start swimming away under the dock, giving me a window of opportunity to paddle away to safety. So after that near death experience I paddled over to the eagles nest but didn't see any. Hot out, 93 degrees even tho it was after 5. Upon my return the swans were warliy watching me from under the dock, but must have decided I was a bigger threat than they could handle, so they stayed put.  Darn straight.

  • Alan still standing in the 10000 degree weather.

Alan paddleboarded and I kayaked over to party cove, ran into friends Steve who had just gotten a very nice center console Trailmaker. Very hot, yet it's supposed to be hotter tomorrow. I can't belive I ever complained about the cold in the wintertime and wished for the summer. Actually, it's not the heat thatbothers me, rather it's the humidity. I think this is Day 50 for me, halfway done

  • And another
  • Alan the captain
  • Ted and Margaret

Took friends Ted and Margaret out onthe pontoon boat way out into the Potomac, cruised down to horsehead cliffs, almost to Cobb Island and back. Very calm day. So still. Earlier today we saw about 25 dolphins in the creek, a first for us!

  • On the boat in the creek
  • Eagles!

Took friend Ted out on the Kiwi Kruzer down into the creek and out into the Potomac.  Boated by the whole peninsula of Colonial Beach and showed Ted the sights. Saw 2 eagles together in a tree, couldn't get too close as afraid we'd scare them off.

  • My back
  • Friend Margaret on virgin voyage
  • Posing.

Friends from northern VA are visiting and Margaret and I took the kayaks our i to the creek. Very nice afternoon.  Afterwards Margaret said that was the first time she'd ever kayaked. I was so surprised because she got in and out and paddled like a pro.

  • Huge waves again. They were huge at the water's surface anyway.
  • Toward the Potomac, I'm running out of things to take pictures of.
  • Our neighbors osprey nests. It has been abandoned for weeks. First time in 9 years that no osprey has made it their home.
  • Alan caught a pic of me as I came in.

Incredibly windy today, tho immediately around our dock it was calm. Funny how the air flow and land can block the wind. But the gusts were ferocious and I ended up just paddeling close to shore. Our horseshoe crab was still on the beach, was definitely dead as I poked at it with a stick, plus it was still upside down so that was another clue. Alan picked it up the threw it in the water for the fish to enjoy. Or whatever it is that munch down on those things. Plus it was starting to smell.
