  • Pic of our house as we were coming home
  • Me!
  • Baby ducklings
  • Off they go tho I really tried not to disturb them, but well, I had to go up the stairs to get to the house.

Took the Kiwi Kruzer out on the Potomac and once again turned off the engine and relaxed. A little windy which made the boat rock a bit, but was still nice. Very humid and hot day but cooler on the water. Upon our return we found a family of ducks resting on our beach. The babies were so cute,  I wanted to take them home with me. Oh, wait. I am home.

  • It was ice tea. Really!!
  • And there I am posingfor the pic.

Took the Kiwi Kruzer out to middle of the Potomac, turned the engine off and alan and just relaxed and read our books. Hot day, Alan was able to get in the water to cool off, but water was way too chilly for wimpy me to get in more than up to my hips. Beautiful day. Loving on the weather.

  • Really! That's an eagle!
  • Alan admiring the nice Key West boat.
  • Alan in the background, guess I could have looked a bit more pleasant for the pic. But I was preoccupied with finding the shutter in the bright sunloght.
  • Marker 11 up the creek
  • Harbor View Marina
  • King of the paddleboard

Mid 80s today. Loving this warmer weather. Paddled to the Harbor View Marina, I in my kayak and Alan on his paddleboard.  Saw an eagle in the neighbor's tree but he took off before I could get my camera focused on him so just caught his tail end.Alan eyed a coveted Key West boat on another neighbor's lift.

Number of days:
1 day
  • Alan
  • The 14 swans up ahead. Was not able to get a better pic of them. For some reason my phone started overheating and shut down. Of course it did.
  • Alan on his paddleboard me in the foreground. Barely.

Even better to be out on the water. Alan went with me, he on his paddleboard . We saw a ton of swans together, at least 14. A bunch? A gaggle? A pride? I have no idea what a group of swans are called. A herd?

  • Swans gliding by
  • Scene on the creek
  • Had to take a pic of something.

Out on the creek, saw some swans, some cormorants sunning themselves wings spread out, a few geese and an eagle flew by.  Got too close to a scolding osprey. But the swans was the only one that cooperated for a pic, and barely at that.

  • All that blackish stuff on the beach is 1000s of weevils.
  • Windy and rough seas but sunny.

But very windy. Kayaked across the creek, and around wirts wharf.  Water was pretty rough but easy enough to paddle around. The bugs are still out in full force all over the beach.

  • Why, there I am. I think pics of birds are more interesting than a selfie, but didn't see any remarkable birds today.
  • Alan ahead of my kayak
  • Taking his sails down
  • Alan and his boat

Alan went out in his sailboat and I paddled about in my kayak.  I tried to get closer to him as he was coming in to grab a pic but he was too fast for me and was taking down his sails by the time I got close.  Nice afternoon. The stupid weevils are still everywhere. A neighbor says they will be here all summer. Oh, that had so better not be true.

Number of days:
1 day
  • Putzing around the creek
  • A blue heron
  • Mallard
  • Caught a cormorant taking off
  • Taking off
  • The evil weevil

Guess I'm not the only one in the area puzzled by these weird looking bugs that are dead/alive everywhere. On Nextdoor other people were talking about them and someone identified them as weevils! Yechhh. Course I know nothing about weevils, apparently this species is common, only causes minimal damage to foliage, are not dangerous,  won't kill you and so on. But cute they are not. I got a close up of one I pulled out of the water and yes it was miraculously alive. After posing for the portrait he got flicked back into the water. Otherwise calm-ish day, now that I am no longer obsessed about the stupid bugs I tried to take pics of the water fowl I encountered on this trip.

Number of days:
1 day
  • Haunted duck blind
  • Trying (and failing) to be artistic.
  • The mystery of the little black bugs. They're alive!! Eww.

Out into the creek enjoying the sun, tho it was supposed to be in the 80s today. More like 75. Paddled out to the haunted duck blind. (Well, that's what I call it, it seems like its about to tumble in the water any day now, and it just looks downright creepy.)  There are always 1 or 2 osprey on it, but no sign of a nest. Upon my return, I noticed what I thought was the ultimate end of the journey for the bugs I mentioned yesterday.  The shore line was littered thick with them. But when I inspected them further, I saw that a lot of them were still alive! Eww. And even tho I has taken a close look at them yesterday and saw that they definitely had wings, these guys did not, and actually looked more like tics, with a bunch of legs. Did they metamorphosis? Were there two bug apocalypses going on? As I walked back to the house I noticed about 10 of them were somehow hitching a ride and were crawling up my leg in typical tic behavior,  not that I am an expert entomologist by any means. But I was grossed out enough to flick them all off and stomped on the little mothersf**ers with my soft water shoes that they just laughed at. If I find just one of them embedded into my skin tonight, today was my last day on the water.
