Came around to Rudee Inlet where I had to shut down the inlet throughout the day as public works replaced the dredge pipe under the water.

Longer days are finally here. Overcast day light savings time day but I'll take the warmer temps.
Good to be back on the water. New 187 is getting some final touches so I grabbed 507 today.
The 20th Annual Steven Todd Dooley Search and Rescue (SAR) Forum (Feb 2026) in Hampton, VA, brought together over 175 first responders for intensive maritime, night, and technical rescue training. This premier Virginia-based event, hosted by the US Coast Guard and regional partners, focuses on improving interagency coordination and operational readiness. This year I was promoted to the position of Harbormaster. It was a very stressful but rewarding endeavor.
Not real busy on the Bay. Traveled over to Hampton to check on the docks for the upcoming Search and Rescue Forum.
The (2nd) final voyage of 187. She was pulled today for the last time. But she will live on as the new rescue boat for Beach EMS. She is gonna get a new paint job, 2nd hand engines (smaller HP) and an additional seat. I know she will treat them as good as she treated me. New 187 will be online shortly.
After the weather we had the past couple of weeks, today was a breath of fresh air. Even with temps is the low 40s, it felt practically like shorts weather.
Not a bad day on the water, topped off with the purchase of a new rifle. I will say, no one does more for gun sales than the Democrats.
7 hours on patrol. Conditions were cold and snotty, but beats the rain from the day before. Got to see the humpbacks for the first time this year. Also a neat diesel-electric sail assisted cargo ship.
The ultimate "You can't park there". By now most of the country has seen the driver rescue from the vehicle in the water here in Virginia Beach. Well, I wasn't involved in that. It was my day off, but I was called in for the vehicle recovery. The vehicle was resting in the bottom on the driver's side. We positioned our vessel over the vehicle and we were able to rig the rear passenger tire with a chain. With the boat, we pulled the vehicle back upright and pulled it along the bottom 150' - 200' back to the ramp it had entered from. From there we transferred the tow line to the tow truck driver who then pulled the vehicle out. Easy peasy.
